Carlton Landing….Where Seaside Meets Oklahoma
I almost hesitate to share this …. because I really want this place to stay my little “hidden gem”. Carlton Landing a special place to me…. it’s a quaint little community in Eufaula, OK that we retreat to whenever we need to just recharge and relax a little. Everything seems a little slower there — the pace is steady but never speedy, people are friendly, the community is safe and has wonderful amenities. The sweet sounds of kids playing outside can be heard from sunup to sundown.
If you’ve ever visited Seaside, Carlton Landing will feel familiar to you. It has a coastal vibe, complete with its own little “boardwalk”. It’s a little lake community that has its own charter school, a general store and picturesque homes ranging in size from comfy cottages to massive homesteads. I discovered Carlton Landing back in 2014, and have returned at least 2-3 times a year ever since. I fell in love with the “overlook” that you see upon entering Carlton Landing……so much in love that I decided to have our 10 year vow renewal at this very spot.
Carlton Landing has two community pools, surrounded by plenty of lounge chairs, picnic areas, and grills to go around. The pool areas are a staple in the summertime — you’ll often see a barrage of empty bicycles and golf carts lined up just outside their entrances.
There’s a boat dock too — here you can swim, fish, kayak, or even just sit on the man made beach and make a sandcastle with the kids.
On most weekends, especially during the summer, there is always some sort of planned activity — ranging from porch concerts and volleyball tournaments to vendor fairs and movie nights. After the kids are in bed — the screened in porches, many with fireplaces and outdoor TV’s — make a perfect backdrop for a movie, popcorn and a glass (or a bottle) or wine.
Carlton Landing is honestly an amazing place for time with family, a girls weekend, a family reunion or just a quick couples getaway. It’s a great place to take family photos — some of my favorite memories have been made here.
There are a few important things to keep in mind if you decide to visit. Here’s what you need to know before you go:
You must be ready to disconnect: Literally. Cell service is SPARSE at best here— even with your phone on WiFi. Believe it or not, you get used to it — and looking at your phone or computer screen a little less than usual becomes a welcomed thing…
Bring something to read: Whether or not you consider yourself an avid reader — there’s something so special about sitting on the porch watching the sun rise with a good book or magazine in hand.
Shop ahead or be willing to go into “town: Each of the rental homes in Carlton Landing has great kitchen amenities. Use them! There aren’t nearby fast food restaurants so be prepared to cook. The closest grocery store is about a 15-20 minute drive once you get out of Carlton Landing, so just be prepared for that.
Carlton Landing is Growing: You’ll likely experience some construction traffic in and out of the community. It’s nothing too alarming, but knowing this ahead of time is helpful.
Rent a Golf Cart: I mean, why not? Is it needed? No? But is it fun? YOU BET!
Over the years, we’ve stayed at a number of the rentals in Carlton Landing. Be sure to check out the links below — I’ve shared a few of our favorite rentals to stay at when we visit!
I hope you give this little gem a try and you love it as much as I do! :-)
