Snow Day in Texas!

Living his best life….per usual….

Actually…it was more like a snow WEEK! While I love VISITING the snow and cold places, it a whole other thing to have it here in Texas! While the snow was SO beautiful, we unfortunately learned just how ill-equipped we are here in Texas for weather like this. Sub zero temperatures, multiple days of snow, ice, power outages, interruptions in the water service — it literally was the perfect shitshow of a storm. Our power was on and off for days, and the cold temperatures proved to us that even though our home is fairly new, our HVAC is crap. No surprise here — our builder cut nearly every corner that they could (more on that later)…..so even when we did have power, it was so cold in the house that we were genuinely concerned about the possibility of hypothermia.

It really was like a winter wonderland….and this was just when the snow BEGAN! But there was no power and it was sooooo COLD!

We fortunately have a place nearby that we lease for work/office space and that building had backup generators and plenty of heat and power. So, we packed up our family of 6 and moved into that space for the week. The kids really thought they were on a little “staycation” as their school schedule was relaxed a bit, there was inches of snow outside to play in and we had some friends join us who were also without power and water. It really was fun….and did feel sort of like a vacation — big breakfasts for both of our families, lots of playing and mischief, memories made and a fair amount of wine drinking for mama. It was really a fun time had by all!
