We’re building….again!

Our first farmhouse

“Why would you sell that house!?” - a question that I often get asked. We loved our land, we really did. When we set out to build this house, we worked hard to vet builders, but we ended up selecting a builder that was undergoing a HUGE change and this left us building with an all new team that was not truly on board with building OUR vision. They wanted us to build a cookie cutter house. A house that they could cut corners on. A house that wasn’t truly custom. And that’s just what I did NOT want to do.

Ok, let me first say this - because its important to me that this is known: I was happy and thankful to have a wonderful home that I shared with my family and friends. It is not my intention to ever be anything less than extremely grateful for our blessings.

However, building a house with even the most responsive and professional builder is stressful enough…..so having absolutely no faith or trust in the team building your home is truly trying. To add to the chaos, I was running a company and traveling more than ever, we were pregnant with baby number 3, my dear husband was starting his own new company and we were living in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment with a huge dog and two busy boys with endless energy.

Needless to say, I was tired, run down and had barely enough energy to make it through each day.

So, I gave up.

I stopped fighting for the things I wanted in our home. I let corners be cut. I wanted it ALL to be over with. I wanted to move in and nest before the new baby arrived. Basically, I turned my head and let someone else finish building our dream - their way.

We were in this house just over three years. We settled into it and I eventually found SO many ways to be happy in it. Until one day… I got the itch to renovate!

But renovation proved to be way too costly. The estimates that we were getting in were in some cases MORE than what we spent to build the entire house! Huh? So, with the crazy real estate market in Texas during the pandemic, we decided to list our home. Just test the waters. Well testing the waters turned into multiple offers over asking price — so here we are! We sold what we thought was our “forever home” and we’re on a journey to build our new home{sted} on 5 acres nearby.

This will be a long process, but I know its going to be worth the wait! Oh, and by the way, our previous builder is no longer in business.

Stay tuned for updates - I’ve got some exciting updates in store!!
